Credentials: I hold an M.A. degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin (1978) and an M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from Southwest Texas State University (1990). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. I am also a Certified Imago Relationship Counselor and have had professional training in Mediation.
My Story: I grew up a Military Brat moving around and living in Austria, Germany, New Jersey, Virginia, Kentucky, and Texas. I attended the University of Texas and upon receiving my Masters Degree took a position at Bee County College in Beeville, Texas as the Coordinator of Computer Assisted Instruction. I worked for over 15 years in the Computer Industry developing instruction, training, and programming. In 1990, I decided to make a career change and chose Counseling and Guidance. I have been in private practice for over 14 years and my office is located at 5902 Laird Dr.., Austin, TX 78757. I can be reached by phone at (512) 454-1850.
Counseling Philosophy: I approach counseling as a sacred trust. I have been most influenced in my work by the work and style of Dr. Milton Erickson and one of his students, Dr. Stephen Gilligan. I approach each person’s issues as unique and following the lead of Dr. Milton Erickson create a “new philosophy and approach” for each client. I take a psycho-spiritual outlook, helping the client to explore their ideal self and their relationship to Spirit, their friends, family, community and work. I prefer to be creative in counseling using props, metaphors, play-back theater and psychodrama when appropriate. I feel Group Counseling is one of the most effective approaches to self-knowledge and specialize in facilitating couples groups and self-growth groups.
