This is the book on which my course "Yoga for the Third Stage of Life" is based. It is a tremendous resource for Vinyasa Krama, but if you are new to Yoga, the amount of information might seem overwhelming.
Both of Ramaswami's books are for the more serious Yoga enthusiast and represent some the most thorough and well presented texts on Yoga. Both books present a thorough explanation of Vinyasa Krama, however, I found the books much more accessible after attending one of Ramaswami's training -- which I strongly you encourage to do, if you are interested in this approach to yoga. Check out the Events tab on his website. |

This is really 'the complete book', a true gift from Sri Ramaswami, organizing and presenting the practice base on Krishnamacharya's teachings.

A most helpful companion text when studying Ramaswami's books on Vinyasa Krama. Provides interesting questions from a student's point of view that are answered by Ramaswami. Clear and elucidating.

A great resource as well as a very good introduction to the Yoga philosophies. If you need a place to start, to begin to understand the philosophical and spiritual basis of Yoga, this is it. If you need a good resource as a refresher, and want to cut to the chase, again, this is the book for you. Well written and with a good bibliography, and great selections from the Spiritual classics. |

A.G. Mohan was another long time student of Krishnamacharya and this book reflects his approach to the teachings. Broadens the perspective and depth of Krishnamacharya's teachings. All the long time students of Krishnamacharya took from him different approaches, but they all cover the same basic material with slightly different perspectives.

Although T.K.V. Desikachar is probably the most well known of Krhishnamacharya's sons in the United States, T.K. Sribihashyam, his third son, also gave up his professional career to devote himself to Yoga and founded Yogakshemam. This book is another great resource for those interested in the lineage stemming from Krishnamacharya with practice sessions "Examples of General Practice Sessions; "Life Saving Sessions" specifically designed for Spiritual Progress; practice sessions actually used by Krishnamacharya in his private practice; pranayama sessions. Includes pranayama 'sheets' that show the major pranayama exercises; mudra sheets; and asana sheets with detailed instructions. Well organized for practical and everyday use -- includes wonderful photos of Krishnamacharya. Somewhat expensive but well worth it.

A great workbook by Austin's own Caroline McCarter a long time student of A.G. Mohan and his wife Indra Mohan. Not solely an instruction manual, but an actual hands on workbook, which helps the student approach Yoga as a means of self-growth, spiritual development, and provides a hands on introduction to Yoga philosophy. If you want to get into Yoga beyond the physical asanas, this book is for you. If you need a personal yoga mentor, a certified Yoga therapist, or just want training in Vinyasa Krama check out Caroline's Web Site here.

Just want to dip your toe into the world of Yoga, get to know the basic poses, and read a wonderful book at the same time? Or perhaps you need a Yoga book for your grandchild, so they can practice with you -- they just love to show you how flexible they are. Just a great book, well written, accurate Yoga poses, and delightful illustrations.

Are you the artistic type, like to draw as a form of meditation, then you will love this book. Introduces you to Goddesses, with excellent renderings explanations of their story and their energies.
